At 3:14 p.m. on Thursday February 26, 2004, the Charles County 911 Communications Center dropped tones for a house fire on Elizabeth Drive in Waldorf. Hughesville’s engine 23 and tanker 2 responded. Waldorf Chief 3A was the first to arrive on the scene, reporting a working fire with heavy fire showing from the first floor. Engine 33 arrived moments later and placed 2 hand lines in service.

Hughesville engine 23 and tanker 2 arrived and established a water supply while their crews went to assist with extinguishment. Upon the arrival of Hughesville engine 23s crew at the house, heavy fire was found venting from the entire front of the structure. Crews were removed from the structure, due to water depletion and a defensive mode was set up.

All crews then switched to a defensive operation, placing a 2 1/2 inch line off of Engine 33 in service. Crews knocked down the bulk of the fire from the exterior, then entered to hit hot spots and start an extensive overhaul.

Chief 2A (Scott Herbert) was assigned as the water supply officer. Hughesville’s engine and tanker pumped approximately 29,000 gallons of water.

Hughesville’s units were placed in service at 1835.
