On 12:14 a.m. on February 27, 2004, Hughesville Fire and EMS units along with Dentsville EMS were alerted to a car crash on Keech Road. While units were responding, Charles County 911 Communications advised that there were reports of 1 person trapped and they added Mechanicsville squad 2 and the Charles County Medic Unit to the call.

Hughesville units arrived on the scene to find a single vehicle with one occupant. The vehicle had hit a tree and caused severe passenger front end damage. The patient was quickly assessed before MSP’s Trooper 7 was requested.

After the vehicle was stabilized using step chocks, the squad crew removed the “soft top” of the vehicle and popped the driver’s side door using the Hurst Pallidan Tool. Chief 2A assumed command while the extrication was being completed.

Engine 23 established a landing site at Charles Street and Keech Road. Squad 2 remained on the scene for a short period of time providing lights for the Charles County Sheriff’s Office. Trooper 7 handled the Medi-vac.

Hughesville units cleared the scene at about 1:21 a.m.
