While crews from Hughesville were out investigating an Automatic Fire Alarm during the brief violent afternoon thunder storm, St. Mary’s County Communications alerted units to 29435 Heart’s Desire Drive in Mechanicsville for a “working house fire.”

Mechanicsville’s Engine 23 arrived to find fire venting from two sides of the house. A quick interior attack on the fire was made by Mechanicsville volunteers while Hughesville’s crew assisted in overhaul.

Once Hughesville’s units cleared this scene, communications alerted units from Mechanicsville, Avenue, Hughesville and LaPlata to West Lakeland Drive in Country Lakes for another house fire. Units from Avenue (company 5) arrived and investigated but no services were required. Both calls were a result of lightning strikes produced by the violent storms.
