On July 11, 2004 at 4:21 p.m., Hughesville volunteers were alerted to Leonardtown Road and Cracklingtown Road for an auto fire. Engine 22, Tanker 2, Ambulance 27 and Chief 2B responded.
Units arrived to find a Ford Mustang with heavy fire in the passenger compartment area. The vehicle was being towed when other motorists noticed smoke coming from the car and motioned for the tow truck driver to pull over. The tow truck driver attempted to put the fire out with a fire extinguisher but was unsuccessful.
He unhooked his tow truck and pulled away from the burning car. The fire was quickly extinguished with a 1 3/4″ handline.
