On June 12, 2006 at 1:33 AM, units from Hughesville Fire and EMS and surrounding companies were alerted to the 15500 block of Oak Glen Circle for the working house fire. Hughesville volunteers responded with six pieces of apparatus and sixteen volunteers. Engine 22 and Chief 2B arrived first with light smoke showing, from a two story single family dwelling. The crew investigated to find a fire on the rear deck with extension up the back of the house. The homeowner was holding the fire in check with a garden hose. Firefighters extinguished the fire and checked for extension in the residence. Command held all units from Hughesville and Waldorf Truck 3. The Maryland State Fire Marshal’s Office responded and determined the fire was accidental in nature and caused approximately $10,000.00 in damage. Chief 2A (Herbert) was the incident commander and units cleared at 3:46 AM.
