On 09-24-04 at 3:22 PM units from Hughesville Fire and EMS and Mechanicsville EMS were alerted to the 9000 block of Leonardtown Road for the auto accident with injuries. As units began to respond, the Mechanicsville Fire Department and the Charles County Medic Unit were added to the call because additional 911 callers were reporting people were trapped in the wreckage. Squad 2 and Ambulance 27 arrived to find a four vehicle accident with one person trapped. A propane truck was one of the four vehicles, but the tank on the truck was not damaged and there was no propane leak. The squad crew began extricating the trapped patient and assessing all other people involved in the accident. Engine 23 and St. Mary’s Squad 2 (Mechanicsville) assisted in the extrication. A total of four people were involved in the accident, but the only person transported was the trapped driver. Maryland State Police Trooper 7 responded to the scene and transported the driver to an area trauma center. Units cleared at approximately 4:05 PM.
