On March 6th at 1238 hours, Hughesville Volunteers were alerted to the 4600 block of Sheffield Circle in Waldorf for the structure fire. Squad 2 made the response. While responding units for the Charles County Sheriff’s Office arrived and found fire showing from Division 1 of a 2 story single family home. First arriving units from Waldorf found heavy fire on the first floor and attempted an interior attack with units from La Plata. A short time later the fire advanced to the second story. The evacuation tones were sounded pulling all firefighters from the structure as the second story collapsed. Squad 2 assisted with defensive operations on the exterior of the structure. Heavy wind conditions at the time of the fire complicated the efforts of the firefighters on scene. A neighboring house received heat damage but was saved. Squad 2 operated on the scene for over two hours before being released.
