On July 4th at approximately 0218 hours, Hughesville Volunteers and surrounding departments were alerted to the 4800 block of Young Road for the structure fire. Chief 2, Engine Tanker 2, Tanker 2 and Paramedic Ambulance 27 responded. Engine Tanker 2 arrived to find a single family home with nothing evident. Investigation revealed a small fire contained to the garage from improperly discarded fireworks. The assignment was scaled back and units operated on the scene for approximately 30 minutes.

As a reminder, fireworks displays will be available to the public at three locations in Charles County this evening; Charles County Fairgrounds, Blue Crabs Stadium and in the Town of Indian Head. Ground based sparkling devices are the only legal fireworks in Maryland and should be displayed with caution. Have a safe and happy 4th of July!
