At 1645 hrs Hughesville Fire and EMS units were alerted to an auto accident on the Rt. 5 By-pass in the area of the overpasses. The accident involved a vehicle that had been involved in a high speed chase with Police units from multiple jurisdictions. The chase originated near the Gov. Johnson Bridge in Calvert County and proceeded across Rt. 2/4, Rt. 235 and finally ending on the Rt. 5 By-Pass in Hughesville. E-22 and PA-27 responded and upon clearance from the MSP proceeded into the scene to find a single vehicle accident with no injuries. The driver had fled the scene and the passenger was uninjured and in the custody of the police. E-22 crew checked the vehicle for leaking fluids and placed the rest of the assignment in service.
