On July 3, 2008 at 4:14 PM an attempted suicide by gunshot was dispatched just down from the firehouse. Engine 23, Paramedic Ambulance 28 and Chief 2 responded to the area and stood-by for the county police to secure the scene. Eleven minutes later, as units continued to stage, an auto accident was dispatched approximately 1/2 mile away from where units were staging. Units cleared the staging area and responded to the accident, while Utility 2 responded and stood-by at the attempted suicide. Units arrived to find a passenger car on it’s side with one person trapped. The vehicle was stabilized and the roof was cut and “flapped down” to remove the patient. Squad 2 and Benedict Engine 52 assisted on the scene. Maryland State Police Trooper 2 responded to the scene, but was not utilized after the patient refused to fly. Utility 2 cleared after the county police were able to determine the attempted suicide was a good intent call and nobody was shot.
