Units from Hughesville along with neighboring companies and Counties were alerted to 8625 Leonardtown Road for a “working” commercial building fire as a result of a Motor Vehicle Accident.

First arriving Engine 23 found a 2 story commercial building that has 3 separate occupancies with fire showing on side “Alpha” along with a subject lying in the front of the address. The engine crew quickly deployed a hand line and started “knocking” the fire as EMS personnel treated the patient. The patient was found to be the driver of a motorcycle that had “clipped” a small pick up truck at Homeland Drive (some 85+ yards away), lost control and struck the building. The driver was ejected prior to striking the building as the motorcycle went through a cinderblock wall, into the office area of the business known as Guardian Pest Control, and burst into flames, causing fire and smoke damage throughout.
Chief 2B, established command and requested a helicopter for the driver of the bike as well as a separate channel for the EMS/Landing Zone communications. The driver was treated, packaged and transferred to the helicopter which transported the patient to the trauma center.
LaPlata Truck 1 performed a primary search and assisted with extension and overhaul, Waldorf Truck 3 performed the secondary search and also assisted with overhaul. St.Marys Engine 24 set up the “LZ” in a nearby field for Trooper 7. The balance of the assignment was staged then later returned.
Units operated on the scene for 2 1/2 hours before turning it over to the building owner and the Sheriffs Department
