Always willing to lend a helping hand to our Armed Forces, on Sunday May 18th at 0615 hours six members loaded up Engine 22 and Engine 24 and made the trip to Andrew’s Air Force Base to stand-by for the annual Joint Service Open House. Upon our arrival Engines 22 and 24 were assigned to Station 12 along with Med-Cart 1 from Prince George’s County Fire & EMS. During the early part of the air show Engines 22 and 24 were alerted by Flight Line Communications to Stand-by for an “In-Flight Emergency” involving a Harrier jet performing in the air show. Apparently the pilot of the jet was having trouble getting the landing gear down, but after a few short minutes Engines 22 and 24 were advised to “Stand Down” and that the pilot had successfully lowered the landing gear. Later in the air show Engines 22 and 24 were alerted to a missing child who was successfully located by her mother minutes later at Fed-Ex field. Thanks to the Crews who stayed back and staffed the apparatus.
