The Hughesville Volunteer Fire Department and Rescue Squad would like to send thier thoughts and prayers out to all families affected by the tragic crash involving Maryland State Police Trooper 2. Trooper 2 was transporting two accident victims from a motor vehicle collission to an area trauma center. During the flight they encountered bad weather and re-routed to Andrews Air Force Base to land. While enroute to Andrews Air Force Base the helicopter crashed for reasons still to be determined. Tragically 4 lives were lost as a result. The trooper/pilot, trooper/medic, Waldorf Volunteer EMT, and one accident victim died. One accident victim survived the crash and was transported to the hospital by ground where she remains in critical condition. The names of the deceased are being withheld currently pending notification to their families.
