On Saturday June 5th, 2004, members from the Hughesville Volunteer Fire Department and Rescue Squad, Inc. attended Cobb Island’s annual parade. Some of the dedicated Hughesville members worked throughout the week to clean and prepare the apparatus for competition. Although it rained through most of the parade, Engine 23 (with Dalmatian mascot “Siren” aboard), Engine 24 and Ambulance 27 went to the parade and represented the department.
The hard work and dedication paid off because Hughesville received a number of awards:
Engine 24 won a judge’s award
Engine 23 was awarded the second best appearing engine
“Siren Thompson” was the best appearing mascot
Ambulance 27 was the best appearing ambulance
Hughesville VFDEMS won the highest award of “BEST APPEARING COMPANY OVERALL.”
Hughesville Volunteer Fire and EMS would like to thank Cobb Island for their hospitality. We are looking forward to participating in the Maryland State Fireman’s Association parade in Ocean City and hope to see many units from Southern Maryland.
