The hard work from members of the Hughesville Volunteer Fire Department & Rescue Squad, Inc. paid off at the Southern Maryland Volunteer Fireman’s Convention.
On Saturday night, Hughesville Fire and EMS responded to and battled a house fire for over an hour and then spent over 5 hours getting the equipment back on the apparatus and ready for the next call. All of this occurred less than 12 hours from when our department was being submitted for review by judges at the convention.
Members arrived as early as 6 a.m. Sunday morning and began scrubbing engines and ambulances and re-racking hose beds for particular formation and excellence. In all, six pieces of apparatus (Utility 2, Engine 24, Engine 23 (with our Dalmatian mascot “Siren”), Ambulance 27, Tanker 2 and Squad 2) were staffed and participated in the judging.
We are proud to announce that our department was selected as the SECOND BEST APPEARING COMPANY in the entire Southern Maryland Association. Additionally, Tanker 2, a unit that shuttled thousands of gallons of water at the house fire less than 12 hours from when it was judged for perfection, was selected as the SECOND BEST APPEARING PUMPER/TANKER.
This effort and commitment from the members at the Hughesville Fire and EMS station continue to exhibit the kind of outstanding service and dedication the citizens in and around Hughesville receive everyday. Thank you!
