On July 3, 2010 at 1:34 AM, Hughesville Fire and EMS and the Benedict Fire Department were alerted to the 40,000 block of Waterview Drive in Golden Beach for the working house fire. Engine 23, Paramedic Ambulance 28, Utility 2 and Chief 2B (Hutchinson) all responded at dispatch with 8 personnel. Engine 23 was the first arriving to find a 1 1/2 story house fully involved, with three vehicles burning also and exposure problems on both sides of the house. Engine 23’s crew stretched one 200′ cross-lay to one side and the 400′ leader line to the other side. As additional help arrived, the second 200′ cross-lay was pulled, as well as the front bumper line. Crews worked for several hours to control the blaze and eventually perform salvage and overhaul. Additional firefighters were called in after the amount of overhaul became apparent. Engine 23 and Chief 2B were clear at 5:53 AM.
Firefighters from Hughesville, Mechanicsville, Benedict, Waldorf, Hollywood and Avenue operated on this scene.
On a side note, as Waldorf Engine 31 was leaving the fire ground, they came across another working fire on Golden Beach Road approximately 1/2 mile from the first fire. Hughesville Engine 22 responded on that fire.
