On Monday afternoon July 18, 2005, a fully loaded Calvert County school bus broke down in front of the firehouse causing the station to act as a temporary reprieve from the heat for approximately 40 children and their chaperones. The entire class was invited into the station’s training room in order to cool down, while a crew from Squad 2 worked to contain the fuel leak. Assistant Fire Chief Antwan Thomas coordinated the efforts both in and out of the station.

While the crew from Squad 2 moved the bus from in front of the firehouse to the side parking lot, to begin working on the fuel leak, EMS Sergeant Chris Conley and FF/EMT-B McMahan gave the children some water and began an impromptu fire prevention discussion.

Once Squad 2 contained the fuel leak and repaired the cause of the leak, the children and chaperones were loaded back onto the bus and sent on their way.

The responding crew was Assistant Fire Chief Thomas, EMS Lt Saunders, EMS Sgt Conley, Eng. Hill, Chief Engineer Jenkins, FF/EMT-B McMahan, FF Linville and FF/EMT-B Thompson.
