A short time later, Engine 24 arrived on scene to find a brush/debris fire behind a residence in the 7700 block of Kent Drive which was threatening a detached garage. Engine 24 began attacking the fire along with the crew from Engine Tanker 2. As additional units arrived on scene, units were directed to various sides of the fire to keep it contained. While extinguishing the fire, the property owner was located deceased. The fire was extinguished and the scene was transferred to the Charles County Sheriff’s Office, Maryland State Fire Marshal’s Office and the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner to complete an investigation.

Chief 2 held the Command and units operated on the scene for nearly two hours. The Maryland State Fire Marshal determined the fire originated in the rear of the detached garage and was caused by the victim burning debris. The fire was aided by high winds.
