On April 26, 2005 at about 6:48 a.m., Hughesville firefighters were alerted to a fill in at Waldorf Co.3 on Old Washington Road. Waldorf volunteers and other surrounding companies were committed to a working house fire in the Pinefield section of Waldorf.
Engine 23 headed towards the fill-in with a four person crew and was alerted to an auto accident with injuries before even making it into Waldorf. After clearing the accident scene, the engine arrived at company 3 and stood-by. Around 8:30 a.m., Engine 23 was alerted to the Hampshire neighborhood as the second-due engine for a reported working townhouse fire.
First arriving Engine 122 (Westlake) reported a three-story “middle of the row” townhouse with heavy fire and smoke showing. Engine 23 arrived moments later, picked up Engine 122’s line at the hydrant and advanced a second attack line into the townhouse. The fire was confined to the townhouse where it started and units cleared after more than two hours on the fireground. One firefighter was transported with minor injuries after falling partially thru the floor.
