On May 23, 2006 at 4:09 PM units from Hughesville Fire and EMS, Dentsville EMS, the Bel Alton Fire Department and the Charles County Medic Unit were alerted to Oliver Shop Road at Wheatley Road for the auto accident with injuries and people trapped. Engine 23 and Ambulance 27 responded and arrived behind Dentsville Ambulance 158 to find a two vehicle “T-Bone” type collision with one person trapped. Engine 23 established the Oliver Shop Road command. Bel Alton Squad 10 arrived and began stabilizing the vehicle, while Engine 23’s crew set up for the extrication. While the extrication took place the patient was evaluated and cared for by the crew from Ambulance 158. The decision was made to medevac the patient to an area trauma center and a medevac helicopter was requested. Once the extrication was complete, Engine 23 cleared the scene and established a landing zone for Maryland State Police Trooper 7 in a nearby field. Ambulance 27 evaluated the other driver who refused treatment or transport. Units operated on the scene for just under one hour.
