At about 12:30 a.m. on August 25th, units from Hughesville, Benedict, Baden, Waldorf, Mechanicsville and LaPlata were alerted to a “working house fire” on Woodville Road across from Creekside Drive.
Chief 2 arrived on the scene and found single family home fully involved with fire and two 100 pound propane tanks venting flames 40 feet into the air. Chief 2 established command as Hughesville units arrived on the scene. The personnel laid out a short supply line before deploying three handlines to protect the propane tanks from exploding.
Once the tanks were cooled down, an aggressive attack was initiated to extinguish the rest of the house. Unfortunately, the house was completely destroyed by the fire. Hughesville Co. 2 and all responding tankers were held until the fire was brought under control.
Southern Maryland Electric responded to remove the power lines and the State Fire Marshal’s Office assumed control of the scene. Their investigation is currently on-going.
All units went in service without incident by 2:30 a.m.
