A mid morning trailer fire on Brice Chapel Road in Bryantown kept units from Hughesville, LaPlata, Waldorf, Mechanicsville, Benedict and Baden busy. Units were alerted at about 1045 a.m. for a “working trailer fire” after a neighbor observed seeing smoke vent from the trailer’s front door.

Waldorf’s Engine 33 arrived with LaPlata’s Truck 1 and Chief 1B to find a trailer well involved with fire. Chief 1B established Command while Hughesville’s Engine 23 arrived. The crews on the scene fed attack lines into the trailer until structural stability became questionable. Chief 2 worked with Command while units switched to a defensive mode and then organized resources as they arrived. Chief 3B maintained “Operation’s Group” and organized crews so that they could gain access to the fire. Chief 2A monitored the scene’s safety while Tanker 2 managed the rural Water Supply Group.

One LaPlata firefighter suffered minor injuries after falling through the floor and was transported to Civista Medical Center by Hughesville’s Ambulance. Thus, Dentsville’s ambulance was called to the scene to stand by until the incident was brought under control.

The fire was completely extinguished without further incident and all units cleared the scene by about 1:30 p.m. The American Red Cross is assisting the family of four, including two 10 year old children, who were displaced as a result of the fire.

Chief 2 would like to thank Chief Doug Hutchins and Chief D.J. Mills for their professional scene management during this fire incident.
