On 04-18-04 at 2:39 AM, Tanker 2 was alerted to respond to the 21900 block of Aquasco Road in Prince George’s County for a house fire. Tanker 2 responded with a crew of four and was the first piece to arrive at the scene, finding a two story dwelling fully involved.
Crews had a difficult time gaining access to the house because of its remote location in a wooded area. Tanker 2 checked a nearby driveway and was able to get approximately 350′ from the structure. The tanker crew attacked the fire with a four hundred foot 2″ attack hose line. Benedict’s Engine 53 was the second arriving piece, followed closely by Brandywine’s Squad 40 and Baden’s units. Those units went to Dr. Bowen Road, which was on side two of the structure, to get better access to the structure.
Mechanicsville’s Engine 21 arrived next. They backed in the driveway to Tanker 2 and laid a 4″ supply line out to Aquasco Road to establish a water supply. Mechanicsville’s crew pulled a four hundred foot 1 3/4″ attack hose line off of Tanker 2 and assisted with attacking the fire. Three additional brush units were requested to assist with accessing the fire. Hughesville’s Engine 24 responded with two personnel and left a crew of four back at the station.
Units remained on the scene for about three hours. The cause of the fire has not yet been determined. Special thanks to Marbury Volunteer Fire Department for bringing their Tanker to Hughesville and standing-by while units operated on this fire.
