On 04-09-05 at approximately 8:40 PM units from Hughesville Fire and EMS and Benedict EMS were dispatched to Leonardtown Road south of Prince Frederick Road for the auto accident with injuries. Engine 23 was returning from another call and responded with a crew of six as well as Engine 22 and Ambulance 27 from the station. Units arrived to find a three vehicle rear-end type collision with one victim having severe injuries to her legs. This victim was standing in between two vehicles, when a third vehicle struck them from behind pushing those vehicles together with the victim in the middle. The striking vehicle fled the scene, but was stopped moments later by the police. The victim was medevaced to an area trauma center by Maryland State Police Trooper 7. Tanker 2 established a landing zone for Trooper 7 at the SMECO headquarters on Burnt Store Road. Captain 2 (Thomas) had the command and units cleared at 9:24 PM.
