On June 6th at 7:02 am, Hughesville Volunteers and surrounding stations were alerted to Leonardtown Road and Bryantown Road for the MVC involving a large vehicle. Engine 22, Paramedic Ambulance 28 and Chief 2 responded. Units arrived on scene to find a single dump truck overturned with its contents spilling into the roadway. The operator of the truck was uninjured. The crew from Engine 22 inspected the truck and discovered both saddle tanks were leaking fuel and the hydraulic fluid from the dump body was also leaking. A damn was established using the dirt from the trucks load to contain the spill. The Charles County Hazmat Tram was requested by Chief 2. Upon arrival, our crews assisted with grounding the wrecked vehicle before tapping and offloading the diesel fuel from both saddle tanks. Once the hazards were secured, a local tow company removed the vehicle and State Highway Administration assisted with cleaning the roadway.
