On January 24, 2004 members from Hughesville Fire and EMS conducted a training exercise to help prepare them in the event they are called to perform a rescue in cold water or ice. The Hughesville units and personnel went to the Hughesville Community Pond on Monday night and practiced the evolutions rescues.
The cold weather suits the department uses are specifically designed for ice and cold weather water rescues. Members from the department conducted several scenarios in the water, ranging from unconscious victims who had fallen through the ice to conscious combative victims stuck in the freezing water.
The drill was coordinated by Captain Antwan Thomas.
