March 15, 2006 proved to be a busy day for the Hughesville Volunteers. After a few runs in the early morning hours, Tanker 2 transfered to Calvert County Company 3 (Solomons) because of a three alarm structure fire on the island. Tanker 2 remained there for over 8 hours, not returning home until 9:30 PM. After a couple of minor brush fires, Engine 23, Ambulance 27 and Chief 2A (Herbert) responded to Leonardtown Road at Gallant Green Road for the auto accident with injuries. Units arrived to find a two vehicle accident with one person trapped. While extricating that patient, a structure fire was dispatched on Walnut Court in Waldorf. Engine 23 completed the extrication and responded to the fire. Crews from Waldorf arrived to find a two story multi-family dwelling with heavy fire showing from sides “B” and “C”, and a second alarm was requested. Engine 23 arrived as the third due engine, layed approximately 600′ of supply line from a secondary water source and positioned on side “B” of the structure. Engine 23’s crew advanced an attack line to side “C” and assisted with extinguishment. Engine 23 operated on this scene for approximately three hours.
After transporting from the auto accident on Leonardtown Road, Ambulance 27 remained at Civista Medical Center to assist with a mass casualty incident, where over thirty students were being transported there.
While Tanker 2 was still in Calvert County and Engine 23 was on the Walnut Court fire, Engine 22 transfered to Waldorf Company 3. While at company 3, Engine 22 ran a pedestrian struck at Acton Lane and Western Parkway. Engine 22 was the first arriving to find a female with serious injuries after being struck by an SUV. MSP Trooper 2 responded and transported the victim to an area trauma center. Engine 23 and Engine 22 were back in quarters at 6:50 PM. Mechanicsville Engine 24 filled in at Hughesville, running one call while on the fill in.
