On February 21, 2004, Hughesville and Benedict fire departments were dispatched to respond with the Mechanicsville fire department at Jade Way in Mechanicsville for a house on fire. As Mechanicsville’s engine 23 arrived on the scene with a working fire, Hughesville’s tanker 2 and Benedict engines 52 and 53 were added to the dispatch. Mechanicsville’s engine 23 reporting heavy fire throughout the entire 2-story house.

Hughesville’s engine 23 arrived as personnel were being evacuated from the structure for fear of collapse. From that point, most of the efforts were taken from a defensive mode until the fire was brought under control nearly 45 minutes later.

Units remained on the scene performing overhaul and knocking down the hot spots until about 6:15 p.m.
