On April 8th at 8:50 PM, Hughesville Volunteers and surrounding departments were alerted to the 7400 Block of Sugar Cane Ct for the motor vehicle collision involving hazmat. Squad 2, Tanker 2 , Chief 2, Ambulance 28 and Paramedic Ambulance 27 made the response.

Squad 2 arrived on scene to find a tractor trailer overturned with the contents leaking. Upon further inspection it was determined the tractor trailer was carrying pool water and not gas as originally reported. The driver of the truck was assessed by Paramedic Ambulance 27 and a helicopter was requested to transport the driver to an area trauma center. Engine 22 and Waldorf Engine 33 responded for the landing site.

Squad 2 determined the only hazard was leaking motor oil from the engine and a small amount of gasoline that leaked from a transfer pump for the pool water. The saddle tanks on the tractor were not compromised. The assignment was scaled back to Hughesville VFD, Mechanicsville VFD and the Hazmat Team. Units operated on the scene for approximately three and a half hours.

A special thank you to Prince Frederick VFD for providing an Engine and Tanker fill in at our station while units operated on the scene.
