Hughesville’s Fire and EMS Chief Duane Svites and President Jim Rose received a special invitation from Governor Ehrlich’s office to attend the Transportation Package Announcement held at the intersection of Leonardtown Road and Prince Frederick Road. On February 16, 2004, Governor Ehrlich arrived and outlined his plans to generate funds throughout the state to finance the proposed transportation priorities, which include the Hughesville By-pass. The Governor announced that the Hughesville By-pass construction phase could start before the end of 2004 if the funding package is approved.

Other Hughesville members who attended the announcement were Sergeant Jack Lowe, Sergeant Brad Saunders, Patricia Therres, Mike Bagley, Mary Ellen Hutchinson, Scott Hutchinson, Harold Huntt, Russell Hoffman, Donna McPherson, Rick Bagley and Michelle Bagley.
The members from the Hughesville Volunteer Fire Department and Rescue Squad, Inc. would like to specially thank Senator Roy Dyson and the members of the Board of Fire and Rescue for the work they put into helping us get the Governor’s attention. Hopefully, this is the next step to actually getting this road moving and preventing further accidents from occurring!
