Hughesville Volunteers and surrounding departments have been extremely busy with various fires over the last 24 hours.

On 2/25 2024 at approximately 1207 hours, Squad 2 was alerted to the 3600 Block of Moses Way in Waldorf for the multi family structure fire. Squad 2 made the response. Waldorf VFD arrived on scene and located a three story assisted living facility, which had a sprinkler activation on the third floor from a small fire. Due to the activation all three floors of the structure had water damage. Squad 2 assisted on the scene.

A short time later at 1256 hours, while Squad 2 was still operating on Moses Way, Tanker 2 was alerted to the 13000 block of Mount Victoria Road in Newburg for the structure fire. Newburg VFD arrived on scene and found a fire in the walls of the structure. Tanker 2 responded and was placed in service on the scene. While Tanker 2 responded to the scene, Engine Tanker 2 responded to Newburg VFD for the fill in while units operated on the scene of the fire.

At approximately 2217 hours, Station 2 was alerted to the 1000 block of Dorset Drive in Waldorf for the undetermined fire. Engine 22 made the response. Waldorf VFD arrived on scene to find a shed behind a residence fully involved. Engine 22 arrived on the scene and was placed in staging until they cleared to respond to another reported structure fire.

At approximately 2221 hours, Squad 2 was alerted to the 200 block of Westdale Dr for the structure fire reported as an electrical outlet. Squad 2 responded from quarters. Engine 22 was cleared from the fire on Dorset Drive and responded to the scene as well. Units arrived on scene with other responding units and located a malfunctioning electrical outlet.

On 2/26/2024 at approximately 0017 hours, Squad 2 was alerted to the 2000 block of Blue Anchor Court in Waldorf for the structure fire. Waldorf VFD arrived on scene to find fire showing on two sides of a single family home and requested the working fire dispatch. Station 2 was alerted for the engine. Engine 22 made the response as well. Squad 2 arrived on the scene and assisted on Division 1 of the structure with salvage and overhaul. Engine 22 arrived and was cleared shortly after arrival.

At approximately 0348 hours, Station 2 was alerted to the 12000 block of La Plata road for the residential fire alarm. Engine 22 made the response. Upon arrival, Engine 22 located a two story single family home with the occupants of the residence outside. As units entered the structure heavy smoke conditions were discovered. A working fire assignment was requested bringing Tanker 2 and surrounding departments. Engine 22 entered the structure. The crew quickly located a fire in the kitchen and basement of the structure. The crew extinguished the fire as La Plata Truck 1 arrived and assisted with ventilation and overhaul. The remainder of the assigned was placed in service once the structure was cleared.

Charles County Volunteers from all departments remained busy today. Additional units from St. Mary's County, King George County Virginia and Prince Georges County also responded to these incidents. Hughesville VFD would like to remind everyone to remain vigilant and have an emergency evacuation plan in the event an emergency should arise.
