Structure Fire
By Safety Officer Brad Saunders
March 13, 2026
On March 13th at approximately 12:18 am, Hughesville Volunteers were alerted to the 11000 block of Patchwork Place for the structure fire. Squad 2, Engine Tanker 2 and Tanker 2 made the response. The Charles County Sheriff's Office was on the scene with a single family, one story residence with fire showing from the "Alpha" side. The residence appeared to be vacant. Units from Waldorf VFD arrived on scene to find fire showing. Due to extremely limited access to the vacant property, units worked several hundred feet away and ran leader lines to the fire.
Squad 2 arrived on scene and assisted with opening up the walls and ceiling to expose the fire for extinguishment. Once the fire was out, Squad 2's crew assisted with overhaul before clearing the scene for a response to a CO Poisoning. Engine Tanker 2 and Tanker 2 were placed in service on the scene once a relay was established from a hydrant at the end of the street. Units operated on the scene for just over an hour.
