By Safety Officer Brad Saunders
January 17, 2026

On January 17th at approximately 8pm, Hughesville Volunteers were alerted to St Charles Pkwy and Post Office Road for the motor vehicle collision with one on fire. Squad 2 cleared from another call in Waldorf and immediately responded along with Battalion Chief 2A. Engine 22 also made the response from quarters.

Battalion 2A arrived on scene to find a two vehicle collision with one vehicle on fire. Squad 2 arrived moments later and quickly went to work extinguishing the fire and checking the vehicle for occupants. Laplata Tanker 1 assisted with water supply for the vehicle fire and Bryan’s Road Engine Tanker 11 assisted with patient care until the arrival of EMS Units.

Three patients were evaluated and transported from the scene. One of the victims required transport by helicopter from the collision scene to an area burn center. Engine 22 cleared the collision scene and handled the landing site for trooper 7.

Units operated on the scene for approximately an hour before clearing and returning to quarters. Battalion Chief 2A held the command.

Units: Battalion Chief 2A, Squad 2, Engine 22

Mutual Aid: La Plata Tanker 1, Bryan’s Road Engine Tanker 11, CCMICU PA69, PGFDEMS
