By Safety Officer Brad Saunders
December 26, 2024

On December 26th, at approximately 649PM, Hughesville Volunteers and surrounding departments were alerted to Olivers Shop Road and Burnt Store Road in Hughesville for a motor vehicle collision with one on fire. Chief 2B, Squad 2, Engine Tanker 2, EMS Chief 2A, and Paramedic Ambulance 2 responded to the scene.

Chief 2B arrived on the scene to find a two-vehicle collision with one vehicle well off. The collision also involved a utility pole. The remaining units from Company 2 arrived on the scene moments later, and Engine Tanker 2 stretched a line and extinguished the fire. Paramedic Ambulance 2 assessed the occupants of the vehicles and determined both occupants needed to be transported to the hospital. Due to the involved electrical pole. SMECO was notified and requested. Paramedic Ambulance 2 transported two patients by ground to an area trauma center for treatment. A sand truck from County Roads was requested due to ice forming on the roadway from the frigid temperatures after the fire was extinguished.

Chief 2B held the command, and units operated on the scene for approximately 60 minutes before the scene was turned over to the Charles County Sheriff's Office.

Units: Chief 2B, Engine Tanker 2, Squad 2, EMS Chief 2B, Paramedic Ambulance 2
