Fatal Collision

On November 2nd at approximately 9:58 am, Hughesville Volunteers and surrounding Departments were alerted to the area of Prince Frederick Road and Brandywine Road for the motor vehicle collision involving a large vehicle. Chief 2, Chief 2A, Squad 2, and Engine Tanker 2 made the response.
Units quickly arrived to find a three vehicle collision with a trash truck overturned. Chief 2A established the command and requested additional ALS ambulances. One patient was pronounced deceased on the scene and two helicopters were requested for additional patients. Trooper 2 and Trooper 7 made the response. In addition, a hydraulic leak was located on the trash truck and the hazardous materials team was requested.
Units quickly treated and transported the patients to a near by landing site that was established by Benedict Rescue Engine 5. The patients were transferred to the care of the flight crew for transport to an area trauma center. An additional patient was ground transported to an area hospital for treatment.
Hazmat 16 responded to the scene and mitigated the hydraulic leak. The scene was turned over to the Maryland State Police for investigation. All units operated on the scene for just over an hour.
Hughesville Volunteers would like to extend our condolences to the family and friends of the deceased, and those affected by the tragedy.
