May 21, 2025

Yesterday, members of the Hughesville Volunteer Fire Department and Rescue Squad, Department of Emergency Services Career EMS staff, alongside members of the Maryland State Police - Aviation Command, Mechanicsville Volunteer Fire Department, and Mechanicsville Volunteer Rescue Squad, were awarded the Maryland Institute for Emergency Medical Services Systems (MIEMSS) Star of Life Award. This award, given out annually during #EMSWeek, honors men and women across Maryland who have contributed to the EMS system. The Maryland Star of Life Award is an incredible honor, recognizing an incident response that led to an outstanding rescue under extreme circumstances by EMS personnel.
The Maryland Star of Life Award was granted to these crews for their exceptional response to a call for service on November 6, 2024. At 5:02 PM, a call was dispatched for the initial report of a motor vehicle collision (MVC) with rescue. Their lifesaving measures lead to saving the life of a 16 year who is continuing to recover from his injuries at home.
Congratulations, and thank you, to Rick Feist, Chris Cole, and Todd Connick! This call reminds us of the importance of highly skilled emergency first responders throughout Southern Maryland.
