By Safety Officer Brad Saunders
March 15, 2023

On March 15th at approximately 3:14
PM, Hughesville Volunteers were alerted to Waldorf for the Structure Fire with people trapped. Chief 2 and Squad 2 responded to the 3900 block of Wintergreen Place. The first arriving units from Waldorf found an end-of-the-row townhome with nothing evident. A burn patient was located on the front porch and as crews entered the structure, a small fire was located in an upstairs bathroom. Chief 2 arrived on the scene and assisted Command (Chief 12A). Waldorf units quickly extinguished the fire. A helicopter was requested for the burn patient to transport the victim to an area burn center. Squad 2 was placed in service prior to arrival and Chief 2 operated on the scene for approximately 30 minutes before clearing.

Units from the earlier fire on Leonardtown Road were still operating in Hughesville's first due at the time of this response. Hughesville Volunteers maintained multiple crews throughout the day to handle the calls for service.

Units: Chief 2, Squad 2

Mutual Aid: Waldorf VFD.
