Boat in Distress
By Firefighter/EMT-B Brad Saunders
June 9, 2020
On June 9th, 2020 at approximately 6:36 am, Hughesville Volunteers were alerted along with Benedict Volunteers and the Charles County Dive Team to the Benedict Bridge in the Patuxent River for a boat collision with a subject in the water. Engine/Tanker 2 responded immediately. Upon arriving Engine/Tanker 2 discovered a john boat on the rocks partially submerged with no one on the boat. During the course of the incident, units learned the subject on board was previously transported to the hospital on June 8th. The boat was moored in the river and apparently broke loose overnight and collided with the rocks. Once the subject on the vessel was accounted for, units turned the scene over to the Maryland Department of Natural Resources Police.
