On April 22 at approximately 5:19 p.m., Hughesville Volunteers were dispatched to the 16000 block of Teagues Point Road for a structure fire. Battalion Chief 2, Chief 2B, Engine Tanker 2, Tanker 2, and Paramedic Ambulance 28 responded to the incident. The caller reported arriving home and finding the kitchen on fire, and stated that one person inside the residence had suffered burns to their arms.

Engine Tanker 2 was first to arrive at the scene and identified a one-story single-family home with smoke visible from the front of the structure. Tanker 2 arrived shortly after and connected to Engine Tanker 2’s supply line. Crew members from Engine Tanker 2 advanced a hose into the home and located the burn victim. The victim was removed from the structure and transferred to Paramedic Ambulance 28 for medical treatment.

The crew from Engine Tanker 2 found a fire in the kitchen, but it was already extinguished before their arrival. However, heavy smoke conditions remained inside the residence. Responding units ventilated the building and performed overhaul in the affected area to ensure the fire had not spread.

Units from Hughesville, Benedict Engine 51, and Prince Frederick Tower 2 operated at the scene. Other responding units were placed back in service. The burn victim was transported to a local hospital for treatment. Chief 2B maintained command, and crews operated for approximately one hour before clearing the scene. LaPlata's Engine 12 crew provided coverage at the Hughesville station during operations.
