Fire Prevention for Local Youth

By HVFDEMS PIO
October 27, 2020

On October 27th, volunteers of the Hughesville Volunteer Fire Department and Rescue Squad provided demonstration amd education to students at St. Mary's Bryantown School. Firefighters and EMT's shared the importance of practicing a fire escape plan at home and fire safety measures. Fire Prevention coloring books and Junior Firefighter helmets were given to the students to help share their excitement in learning.

Volunteers also provided demonstration and education to the youth at Mt. Zion Episcopal Preschool, showing students what to do during a fire and how to help others.

Families should always have working smoke alarms on every level and in every bedroom. Batteries of smoke alarms should be replaced every six months when time changes. A fire escape plan should be practiced at home with children and all occupants of the residence.
