On Friday, April 3, 2020, at approximately 11:00 a.m., Rescue Squad 2 from Hughesville Volunteer Fire Department responded to the 6000 block of New Forest Court, Waldorf Maryland to assist the Waldorf Volunteer Fire Department with a Structure Fire. While enroute, a second alarm was sounded with a large dark column of smoke visible over a mile away on Smallwood Drive West. Rescue Squad 2 captured images of heavy smoke conditions while coming into the area. Crew members from Rescue Squad 2 conducted a primary and secondary search of the first floor with negative results, as well as checking for extension. While interior attack and suppression efforts were ongoing, the evacuation tones were sounded at 11:25 am which at that time all firefighters where ordered to evacuate the structure due to safety issues. Subsequently, fire suppression efforts were conducted from the exterior only.
