Commercial Building Fire in First Due

Early this morning around 0315 hours, Hughesville Volunteer Fire Department and surrounding departments were alerted for a commercial building fire at "Jimmy's Corner" located at 6270 Brandywine Road off of Prince Frederick Road.

Engine 23, staffed with six firefighters, arrived on scene to find smoke coming from the building. Tanker 2 and Squad 2 arrived with four additional personnel and assisted with located the source for the smoke. Chief 2 established command; the fire was located within the walls of the second floor of the building. Crews from Hughesville and local jurisdictions extinguished the fire and ventilated the building.

Later in the day around 1:00 pm, crews from Hughesville VFD ran a working barn fire off of Englewood Drive in La Plata. Around 3:50 pm, Engine 23 and Tanker 2 also responded for a HazMat with a possible oil spill at 3835 Gardiner Road in Waldorf.

Volunteers from Hughesville have been busy throughout the day protecting our local citizens.
